The Choice Neighborhoods Initiative is focused on three goals:

People

Support positive outcomes for families who live in the target housing site and the surrounding neighborhood, particularly outcomes related to residents’ health, safety, employment, mobility, and education.

Housing

Transform distressed public and assisted housing into energy-efficient, mixed-income housing that is physically and financially viable over the long term.

Neighborhood

Transform distressed, high-poverty neighborhoods into viable, mixed-income and sustainable neighborhoods with access to well-functioning services, high quality public schools and education programs, high quality early learning programs and services, public assets, public transportation, and improved access to jobs.

Our Mission

To create affordable housing, develop the local economy, improve education and job training, provide viable transportation options, and get the community involved. The goal is to build a lively, long-lasting community where residents have better access to the opportunities and resources they need to succeed. By tackling specific issues and creating opportunities, the plan aims to make a neighborhood of choice for everyone.
